Sending love and solidarity to our #reSisters at Women's March Barcelona and support their message that... "We stand in solidarity with those peacefully assembling in #Catalonia especially those who have been injured by the police. Today, one's opinion about independence does not matter. What matters is that we all vocally support and seek to protect the basic #humanright to peaceful assembly, #peacefulprotest and #nonviolent, civil disobedience. Today is a dark day for #democracy. We hope that no more harm is done, and that a #peaceful solution can be negotiated as soon as possible."

This week  the Irish government announced that a referendum will be held next year on whether to repeal a constitutional amendment that gives equal rights to a woman and her unborn child, thus opening the door to legalising abortion. This will be held just months before Pope Francis is due to visit the Catholic-majority country.

In northern Ireland, women carry the passports but not the entitlements of British citizens (who have had access to legal abortions for 50 years, since 1967). Calls to "Repeal the 8th" have been steadily growing for years. In March, thousands of activists brought Dublin to a halt during the Strike 4 Repeal rally. This Saturday, organizers expect tens of thousands to demonstrate in the Irish capital at the sixth annual March for Choice.

“I’m standing against something bigger than I originally thought,” says Twenty-five-year-old Baraah Luhaid who has always loved to cycle. “When I advocate for women’s cycling, I’m advocating for women’s independence. Changing core beliefs requires slow, consistent work,” she says. “It’s challenging, but someone has to start.” Luhaid lives in Saudi Arabia, and although women’s cycling was legalised in 2013, it is still massively restricted, and is only allowed in parks or on beaches, and only with a male guardian present.

Founding Saudi Arabia’s first gender-inclusive cycling community and business, 'Spokes Hub', last year, Luhaid is determined to get women – and the fight for women’s rights – moving. 'Spokes Hub' runs the kingdom’s only cycling shop, with a cafe and workshops, for women.

This is Time For Change.
