Women’s soccer has returned to the Centennial State with @indiosdenverfc joining the #WPSL as a 2019 expansion club, the league announced today. ⚽️🏔
Oscar Gonzalez owns the club, which will play home matches at Englewood High School in Englewood, Colorado, a Denver suburb south of the city.
Indios already has a successful United Premier Soccer League men’s side, which was founded in 2015.
“Our goal is to give an opportunity to the young to be able to play on a competitive level and to have the Denver area grow in soccer,” Gonzalez said. “The focus for our club is making sure the young women develop the skills to be successful in soccer but also skills like sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork and perseverance needed for their entire lives.”
Indios’ youth club is actively involved in the #Denver community with the Discover Soccer in the City program that aims to make soccer accessible within communities where free and reduced school lunch rates are 60 percent or more. The free program provides a professional soccer coach to lead practices during after school hours with matches played on Saturdays for eight weeks.
The club joins CAFC Ospreys (Frederica, Delaware), EGA Omaha, Alamo City SC (San Antonio), Chatham FC (Savannah, Georgia), Wake FC (Raleigh, North Carolina), ASC San Diego and EPIC Sport Management (Victoria, British Columbia) as announced 2019 expansion clubs.

JUST ANNOUNCED: The #WPSL welcomes a second Canadian Club for 2019, as EPIC Sport Management has launched a club on Vancouver Island. ⚽️🇨🇦
“EPIC is very excited to be part of bringing the WPSL to Vancouver Island,” said Neil Sedgwick, Director of Youth Development at EPIC Sport, who will be the WPSL club’s head coach. “It has been a few years since the island has had this level of women’s soccer. By Vancouver Island having a team in the WPSL, youth, current university and former university female players are given the opportunity to compete and develop outside of their current playing environments.
“This team extends the pathway of the women’s game on the island, and we believe that these women will excite and ignite young female soccer players on the island.”
